Bio-diversity

Mauritius is renowned for its endless white sandy beaches, turquoise lagoons and golden sun. Yet the island holds further less known natural treasures that can be enjoyed by its residents and tourists. These nature tracks have little or no markings and this renders them hardly accessible without a guide. Efforts are being made by the Government, the private sector and NGOs to preserve what is left of the indigenous forests. Eco-tourism in the island is limited to a few activities or expensive destinations and is not accessible to all. The project Sensation Nature intends to address this particular problem for a selected number of the not-so-well-known nature trails in Mauritius. The proposed project aims to contribute to the above efforts by promoting among the population an increased environmental awareness about the presence and importance to preserve the endemic/indigenous plants found along a selected number of nature trails, as a way to ensure the sustainability of conservation efforts.
