Mellbro Sugars is planning a 30 MW bagasse-based co-gen power plant at Village Shirur, dist. Bagalkot, Karnataka. The project will come up as a part of its integrated sugar plant. Equipment supplier and contractor are yet to be appointed. Land acquisition is in progress. The project is waiting for environmental clearance and term loan. According to MoEF sources, the total land are required for the project is 100 acres. The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 3,300 million inclusive of sugar project and distillery. The molasses-based distillery will manufacture rectified spirit / ethanol / extra neutral alcohol. The project will be implemented within 18 months after obtaining the environmental clearance.
