Shri Badrinarain Alloys & Steel is planning an expansion of its steel plant at Village Kulgachia, dist. Howrah, West Bengal. United Consultants (India) is the consultant. The expansion will involve installation of sponge iron plant (3x100 TPD kilns), induction furnaces (3x10 T) along with 12 MW captive power plant (6 MW WHRB + 6 MW AFBC utilizing waste heat & dolochar from the proposed sponge iron plant). The project is waiting for environmental clearance. Work on the project is expected to commence in 2018. According to MoEF sources, the company is presently operating induction furnaces (2x8T, 1x6T, 2x10T) with billet caster and rolling mill for production of 162,000 TPA CTD and TMT bars. The expansion will also entail installation of matching LRF and a 4/7 M radius 2-strand continuous billet casting machine for production of 93,000 TPA billets. Total land area is 50 acres. Power requirement of 15.6 MVA will be met from proposed CPP and from Damodar Valley Corporation power supply. The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 1,481.3 million to be funded through equity capital/ unsecured loan from promoters and term loans from institutions.
