Chemicals

The group has observed the excessive us of chemicals in gardens, for clearing shrubs and even in school farms and have decided to implement a project which will reduce and even eliminate the use of such chemicals while creating employment. The project objectives are to: (i) increase awareness among residents and by extension Saint Lucians of the harmful effects of chemical herbicides; (ii) introduce an alternative technology to control weeds that will reduce exposure to chemical herbicides; (iii) train 15 persons in the use of the alternative technology and create employment for up to 15 persons through this technology; and (iii) document and disseminate lessons learnt from this project as part of environmental conservation and sustainable living awareness. The goal as stated in the project document is to create a safer environment through the reduction in the use of chemical herbicides and the project will contribute to the CPS outcome of significantly increasing awareness of chemical pollution and alternatives to agro-chemicals.
