The village gets its water supply froma spring , which uses a solar powered submersible pump. The solar system was installed way back in 1972. Due to old age, the inverter is broken and most of th epanels have cracks. Futhermore, the influx of people from outside th evillage has increased th elocal population to the extent that demand for water now, outside the village has increased the local population to the extent that demand for water now, outstrips supply. This calls for the need to expand th epresent scheme. It has also emerged that although the village has been using solar energy for th e last 35 years, awareness on the importance of solar for global environment benefits is not created yet. The main objectives of the proposed project are three-fold:- 1)To consolidate th eexisting solar system by replacing damaged panels, inverter and construction of a bigger tank 2) Expanding the scheme to cater for increased population 3) To use the project as a base for fostering greater awareness and understanding on the importance of wider adoption of renewable energy technologies for global environemtal benefit. Project`s Primary Objective: 1) To provide for in depth and structered demonstration on how solar power, whichi is clean energy could be used to pump water in rural areas. 2)To improve reliability of water supply in the target area. 3) To promote the concept of water governance to local stakeholders. 4) To mainstream MDGs in the project. 5) To create awareness on Climate change issues.
