Western Coalfields proposes conversion of Adasa UG to OC mine at Tehsil Saoner, dist. Nagpur, Maharashtra. The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 3.0089 billion. The current status of the project could not be ascertained. According to MoEF sources, the project is for conversion of Adasa UG to OC mine from 0.5 MTPA to 1.5 MTPA (normative) and 1.85 MTPA (peak) along with increase in land area from 221 hectares to 596.27 hectares. The life of the mine is 20 years. Coal linkage is to thermal power plants of MAHAGENCO & miscellaneous consumers. The total mineable reserve is 22.08 MT out of the total geological reserve of 24.26 MT. The coal grade is GCV-5020 Kcal/kg, G8. The method of mining would be opencast with shovel-dumper combination.
