for
“Developing Modules for Sensitization of Green Startups, Social Enterprises and Incubation Managers on Voluntary Carbon Markets”

Background:

Startups serve as source of technological innovation across sectors including in the development and market introduction of radical sustainable innovation. National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog, Government of India has initiated the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) to nurture innovative startup businesses. Most states have setup science and innovation societies or allocated government institutes with the responsibility to incubate and support startups. Further, there is a need for dedicated efforts to attract financing in cleantech or green startups. A mechanism to support such startups is participation in voluntary carbon markets. In addition to startups several social enterprises also focus on products and services reducing greenhouse gas emissions and can benefit from participation in voluntary carbon markets.

The ‘Global Carbon Markets’ Project commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) with Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of India has objective of building capacity of public and private sector stakeholders on market mechanisms. Based on discussion with relevant stakeholders it has been decided to develop training modules for startups and pre-startup stakeholders as well as incubation center managers to support participation of startups and social enterprises in voluntary carbon markets.

Objective:

The specific objectives of the work are as follows:

  • Development of training module for startups and social enterprises on voluntary carbon markets.
  • Development of training module for pre-startup stakeholders voluntary carbon markets..
  • Development of training module for incubation managers on voluntary carbon markets.
  • Pilot Implementation of training module in selected institutions and their network incubators across 4 states for feedback and finalization of modules.

Tasks of the assignment:

In this context, the selected agency is expected to carry out following tasks within 3 Work packages as mentioned in the TOR:

Task 1: Review of sensitization modules and training programs for startups and social enterprises implemented in India and other countries.

Task 2: Conduct interviews and organize consultations for seeking inputs from stakeholders regarding module development.

Task 3: Module development for startups, social enterprises and pre-startup stakeholders on voluntary carbon market including introduction to climate change and need for mitigation and adaptation; basic introduction of market mechanism for addressing environmental challenges, past, current and future trends etc.

Task 4: Pilot Implementation of training module in selected institutions and their network incubators across 4 states for feedback and finalization of modules.
