study and develop the operative framework and sustainable alternatives for
Sanitary Waste in India under Sustainable Urban Development – Smart City
Project

Under the Indo German Bilateral Development Cooperation, the focal areas currently are:
- Energy;
- Environment and Management of Natural Resources; and
- Sustainable Urban Development
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and GIZ India are jointly implementing
the “Sustainable Urban Development - Smart Cities” (SUD-SC) project. The project
supports the National Ministry and the State Governments (Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and
Kerala) in the policy formulation on housing for all, basic services, planning framework, and
monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It also supports the three select
Smart Cities (Bhubaneswar, Coimbatore, and Kochi) in implementing concepts of integrated
spatial urban development planning.
The objective of this assignment is to
To undertake a primary study on the existing sanitary waste management mechanism (focusing
on the access, collection, transportation and disposal of sanitary waste). The study should
comprise of:
Definition of Scope and Design Briefs
- Baseline Assessment
- Approach and Methodology of the study
- Recommendations and roadmap- based on the findings of the study to develop an
operative framework and sustainable alternatives as well as financial model for
promoting the appropriate system towards access and collection of sanitary waste until
its disposal
