BEML has commissioned third line of metro coaches manufacturing unit at Thippasandra, Dist. Bengaluru, Karnataka on 26th August, 2017. In the existing 2 lines, each line will manufactures 8 to 10 metro coaches/month. With the 3rd line, the company will be able to manufacture 24 to 30 coaches, has further increased its production capacity from 18 cars per month to 27 cars per month by augmenting the jigs, fixtures & machines and at the same time ensuring highest quality standards associated with manufacture of Metro Cars. The company has recently bagged the tender for manufacturing 150 intermediate coaches for Namma Metro worth a little more than Rs. 14,210 million. It is making each coach at Rs. 80 million. The unit already consist of Rolled-out the 180 Ton Hydraulic Excavator - BE1800D & 850 HP BulldozerBD475-1, products designed and developed by in-house R&D efforts in-line with Govt. of India`s `Make in India` initiatives. This is being done through a consortium of led by BEML and includes Hyundai Rotem and Mitshubishi. The first batch of coaches are set to arrive by December 2018, which will make the three car Namma Metro trains, a six coach train.
