Arusha National Park is the closest park to Arusha and Moshi town; it is a Park which can be visited for game drive in a day. The park is surrounded by the local communities in all sides except one side of Mt. Meru , the park is not operating in its full potential due to increased poor visibility due to invasive species and bush encroachment, invasive species have reduce the habitat heterogeneity and palatable forage thus reduction of herbivores, the park is also faced with poaching association with poverty among communities around the pack. For many tourists visiting Arusha national Park has not been satisfactory for the fact that the tourism information on the sites of attraction and seasonal distribution of animals are not clear. This proposed project intends to improve range management practice including use of fire and or clearing of bushes to create glades, Prevent new invasion and manage the existing through awareness education to park staff and community, Provide community conservation education and income generation activity including community based tourism program covering construction of cultural sites and activities, prevent poaching and reduced wildlife human conflict on crops raiding through non lethal wildlife control measures, Obtain Scientific information on the status of the colobus monkey as a major attraction in ANAPA which will improve tourism products and marketing information. LONG TERM OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT: The project aims at contributing to the efforts of Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) and the Government of Tanzania to derive optimal income through the development of a sustainable tourist industry. Through the development of the potential of the Arusha National Park, the project contributes towards this overall Government goal. The development objective of the project therefore is formulated as: To enhance the contribution of Arusha National Park to the overall National Economy and to the Livelihoods of the Local Communities Project goal (to be achieved by the Project): By exploring the various possibilities to enhance tourism, by adjusting the management of the natural resources of the Park based on field trials, and by enhancing the collaboration and participation of the local communities in the sustainable management of the Park, the Project will contribute towards the overall goal project. 3.4. EXPECTED RESULTS OF THE PROJECT The issues that the Project will deal with are divided into 3 distinct fields. In the document, they are called components, and are considered the main results of the Project. These are: Enhancement of Tourism in Arusha National Park; Enhancement of habitat management practices in the park; Enhancement of the interaction between the Park and the local communities Project activities 1. Improvement of social economic activities around the park by providing training on : Community based tourism Construction of cultural sites and activities Prevent poaching and reduced wildlife human conflict on crops raiding through non lethal wildlife control measures, Conservation education and economic alternatives training the climbing guides on conservation information 3. Prepare information which will improvement Park tourism product on; Improve parks road network for game viewing Prepare information of the attractions found on the mountain climbing trail to be used by guides Improve walking safari trails to include areas of attraction
