CONTEXT Shari speciality coffee group has 80 farmers who cultivate high beed coffee . the group also collects and buy coffee from other farmers. The group make standard procedure in the process of dehusking coffee and selling it in grades in order to get good price. The group took loan and purchase a diesel generator to run the dehusking machine . The group has realize that the use of diesel contributes in environment destruction and has less speed in dehusking coffee compare to electricity machine.The group is requesting for support to change from diesel machine to electricity machine as electricity is available in the village.Availability of electricity at the collection center will increase the collection of coffee from other farmers apart from the group members as the machine will be apbe to process more coffee. The groups was adviced to use solar powered machine but it has been difficult to get such machine which will macht to the capacity of solar panels available. Thus the solution to increase the efficient of the group in coffee dehusking is to use electricity machine. PROJECT OBJECTIVES 1. To increase production of coffee sedlings which has less desease and which has more production. 2. To improve coffee dehusking process througth the use of electricity machine. 3. To renovate the existing ofice to be able to collect 36 tons of coffee fron 18 tons per season. SECONDARY OBJECTIVES 1. To create awareness to farmers to plant high breed coofee which has no deseses thus to reduce the use of pesticide. 2. To create awarenes to the community on environment conservation, soil conservation and mixed farming PROJECT OUTCOME 1. Change from the use of diesel to the use of electircity which will increase the amount and efficiency of coffee dehusking 2. Increase in the amount of tons of coffee collected from farmers and rehabilitation of the coffee storage shade 3. Increase in production of improvrd cooffee seedlings 4. Increase in the number of farmers who plant improved cooffee variety. PROJECT ACTIVITIES 1. In collaboration with TANESCO to install ellectricity from the road to Shari speciality coffee office. 2. Rehabilitation of the office and to expand the shade for coffee storage 3. To expand nursery for improved coffee 4. To create awareness on planting improved coffeee variety and environment conservation. PROJECT BENEFITS 1. The project will increase coffee production througth ncrease in supply of improved coffee seddlings 2. The project will contribute in improvig the value of coffee as the value of coffee depends on the quality dehusking process. Coffee which stays for too long withought dehusking loses its quality and value. 3. The project will contribute in increasing coffee famars income as quicjk dehusking will increase the value of coffee 4. The project will contribute in environment conservation as there will be no use of diesel which produces hamfuly gases which destroy the environment 5. The project will be able to collect coffee from many farmers and so reduce the cost to farmes which is used in search of market. 6. Project will reduce number of employees at the factory as 1 person will be able to manage the dehusking process. The money seved will be use for other group activities. PROJECT MONITORING 1. Project monitoring will be done by the leadership of Shari speciality coffee group in every three month and produce report to COMPACT .Shari village authority will be involved in the follow up of the use of project funds as village authority is part of the Shari specialyt coffee group managmenet team. Reports will also be sent to TACRI who are involved in providing knowledge on improvement of coffee nurseries and this will allow the group to get more technical support. EVALUATION INDICATORS 1) Installation of electricity at Shari speciality coffee group offices . 2) Change from diesel to electricity. 3) Increase in coffee collection from 18 tons to 36tons 4) Increase in number of farmers who cultivate coffee which doesnot use pesticide 5) increase in the speed of coffee dehusking process, and ther will be no delay in coffee dehusking 6) Rehabilitation of the shade for coffee collection. PROJECT SUSTAINABILITY 1) To work hard and sometimes with no pay where it is possible to provide manpower without charging. 2) To have good goernance and to keep take proper care of the projects resources. 3) To collaboratewith group members to repair the machine once it has a breakdown. GROUP CONTRIBUTION The group will contribute TZS 3,000,000 in terms of manpower in the rehabilitation of the cooffee shade house. PROJECT BUDGETI The project costs has bee calculated to TZS 22,168,732.18. detailded is attached and it includes cost of installing electricity, costs of rehabilitation of the improved coffee nursery and costs of rebhabilitation of the coffee collection shade house. LCB Recommendations: The project is very important in this time when coffee production has gone down as it will give the courage to farmers to improve coffee production. The project is approved once they are able to provide: 1 Provide the cost benefit analysis of using electricity Vs use of diesel in coffee de husking 2. They should indicate the amount of coffee the machine will de husk per day or month to show the efficient APPRAISAL REPORT The Group will spend less money in coffee de husking if they use electricity as 100,000 kg of coffee cherry = 30,000sh of electricity while 100,000 kg of coffee cherry = 130,000sh of diesel A
