Environmental policy and administrative management

Msoga village is characterized by three main threats of land degradation: Deforestation through forest fires and indiscriminate tree felling; bush clearing and tree cutting for agriculture and charcoal making for business. Late 2006, through deliberate facilitation of TAWLAE, the village conducted a situation analysis of their village environment. During the analysis, most villagers explained that they were irked by the land degradation malpractice that was going on in their village. The villagers asked TAWLAE to assist them develop a land-use plan for their village as an initial step in addressing the problem of land degradation. The project main objective is to conserve the environment through participatory management of the village forest, promotion of agro forestry practices and reforestation activities.
