Implementing NGO/CBO: Communities of Cholburi ICM (ICMCOM): Established under a guidance of the Integrated Coastal Management Project of the Macro GEF , PEMSEA, with aims to promote community capacity and cooperation in management of environment to ensure a more systematic community activities and coastal development process Location of project: Eight communities under territory of Cholburi Municipality, Khlong Tamru Tambol Municipality, Bangsai Tambol Municipality, Angsila Tambol Municipality, Nongprue Municipality and Banglamung Tambol Municipality . Current total waste in the location is about 14 tons/day with estimated 2 tons/day as a source of persistent organic pollutants. Target Population: 4,596 families with 6,657 members in project location who earn living through providing civil service, agriculture, small business and fishery. 1,867 families are direct participants/ beneficiaries. The per capita income is THB: 45,900. Main Activities: 1. Launching capacity building on community waste management by training ,workshop and study tours 2.Demonstrating waste management approaches by separation/reduction of waste and production of compost 3. Conducting participatory evaluation 4. Disseminating project results to wider public Main Anticipated Result: 1. Increased capacity , both technical and institutional, of targeted population witnessed by ability to put into real practice what being learnt 2. Emergence of recycle banks and learning centres for waste management 3. Emergence of demonstration spot for getting rid of toxic waste and sewage before draining 4. Total municipality waste being reduced to 10 tons/day and respective POPs to 1.4 tons/day 5. Average increased income of participating families by THB: 900/month. 6. Emergence of new networks in and around project location
