Promotion of sustainable development of the community of Klaaskreek through ecotourism that will contribute to the awareness with regard to biodiversity of the surrounding tropical forest and empowerment of the maroon culture. The following activities will be executed within this project: 1. Implementation and construction of eco-tourism facilities (construction of tourism lodges, etc.) 2. Integrate and promote the traditional Maroon culture in the eco-tourism activities (training and workshops for especially the young adults in Maroon culture). 3. Enhance the awareness and involvement of the local community. Provide training in environmental awareness and eco-tourism. 4. Strengthen the capacities of the project applicant (Stichting Toerisme Ontwikkeling Suriname). Provide training in organisational and management skills.
