Project Description
The project seeks to offer assistance and support to realize a sustained livelihood and wellbeing of beneficiaries, a conserved natural and semi-natural habitats and ecosystem services, and a strengthened institutional capacity at landscape level to realize the goal of integrating conservation and production in the management of Weto socio-ecological production landscape and a sustainable agricultural practices implemented across the landscape, to ultimately reduce poverty and poverty-induced resources mismanagement. the main outputs are: 1. Create awareness on the landscape conservation practices within the targeted areas and the traditional area. 2. Establish one central nurseries with annual capacity of 15,000 seedings 3. Build capacities and empower 10 institutions with at least 20 members per each group to conserve the landscape by undertaking reforestation activities within the targeted Landscape 4. Develop participatory land use plan based on the traditional and perceived production systems 5. Construct dug out ponds to collect run off water for beekeeping, fish farming, livestock production, and vegetable production. 6. Support local farmers cultivating on the slopes to adopt agro-forestry, stone bonding and other sustainable land management practices 7. Support 60 farmers to acquire beehives for 6 remonstration sites. 8. Establishment of resources management documentation, support center and product processing center. 9. Livelihood activities promotion - beekeeping, livestock (e.g. rabbit & grasscutter) rearing, fish farming and fruit trees farming, woodlot / timber trees production (for charcoal and timber) 10. Formation/strengthening/capacity building for governance institutions resource management 11. Document and disseminate of systems and best practices in resource use and multiple use sustainable land management in the landscape
