This project will increase the capacity of community youths and women on alternative livelihood initiatives in 5 communities around the Sapo National Park (SNP) through training and other economic support to shift their attention from illegal activities which will reduce pressure on the park. The main objective of the project is to reduce illegal activities within the SNP through community participation while the specific objectives will include: 1) increasing the capacity of community members through training on alternative livelihood initiatives and 2) increase the economic capacity of the community as an alternative to illegal activities. The implementation is as follow: Hold 3 biodiversity conservation trainings for 100 community youths and women from 5 communities; Conduct a full phase training tailored to assist individuals start their own businesses; The training is called Start you own business Establish 5 community groups of 10 members each and provide them micro loans; Conduct periodic follow-up visits to ensure monitoring and evaluation of the loan and to provide back stopping support where there are gaps in the businesses; Establish 1 Community conservation group of 5 members from each of the communities who will meet on a quarterly basis to discuss conservation activities
