Environmental policy and administrative management

The purpose of this planning grant was to assist the group in documenting their proposal for funding. on the The overall goal of the project is to reverse land degradation in the six selected farms in Bindura and Shamva districts. This will be reversed by mobilizing and training community members in establishing sustainable systems that influence conservation of soil and water ecosystems. The specific objectives include the following: 1) To select and preserve the degraded areas in each of the selected farms 2) To reduce deforestation through tree planting 3) To harvest water and reduce overland flow and erosion 4) To document experiences for dissemination with other communites 5) To reclaim degraded areas. 6)reduce topsoil loss from fields outputs -6 communty committess traind in sustainable natural resource use. -12000 trees and shrubs planted for firewood production, energy oil and poles -30 model fields of 0.5 ha established, demonstrating improved fallowing -150 households have built and use fuel saving stoves to reduce use of woodland resources -6 biodigesters systems installed to demonstrate alternatives for household energy requirements -150 solar cartoon cookers distributed and the community members trained in using them -6 nurseries set up to multiply plants that can be used againt land degradation -6 community gardens established and run by women -3 workshops for local authorities and members held ACTIVITIES -meetings with local authorities -mobilising the local communities and raising awatreness on environmetal issues -establishing and training of six community committees -setting up six biogas digesters -promotion of solat stoves -establishing 6 community gardens -increasing environmetal awareness in the project area. -producing manuals in shona and ndebele
