Icamagu Institute is a community organization which is located in Dutywa area in the Eastern Cape. It is a social, spiritual, academic and tourism centre which focuses on heritage and cultural activities, Indigenous knowledge systems and African Traditional Religion. The Institute hopes through the Umthonyama Nursery project, to have a nursery, demonstration garden and to plant indigenous trees and herbal medicines that are regularly used for family rituals and minor ailments. This initiative will be used to create awareness about climate change and global warming and also demonstrate the importance of trees. Community will be educated on sustainable utilization and harvesting as well as conservation of important plant species. The project also aimed at capacity building, job creation and contribution to environmental management.
