Most of people associate the geothermal energy with the noisy geysers of spewing hot water and vapor it could not be further from the truth! Such places in the earth where the subsurface temperature gradient is very high are relatively rare whereas another form of geothermal energy, the Low Temperature Geothermal energy, is very common and easy to access. The subsurface temperatures at a certain depth become constant and seasonal temperature fluctuations become insignificant. This fact forms the basic principle of managing geo-thermal energy on heating/cooling of locations that do have a very different temperature compared to that of underground waters. Underground water s temperature in Albania varies between 140C-200C and it is constant beyond 20m. Therefore, it is advantageous the usage of underground water on heating greenhouses on winter season while the air temperature is less than 00C or remains less than 50C for a long period of time. Summer high temperatures, higher than 300C, are also dangerous to greenhouses. The proposed kind of technology is new for Albania, consequently the absence of offer-demand system for this product imposes a barrier to this environment-friendly technology. Project aims at introducing this new technology and it will be implemented in two pilot areas: Hamallaj, Durres and Hysgjokaj, Lushnje.
