The aim of this project is to promote the sustainable use of natural objects to produce handicraft works. This project will demonstrate a practice and viable example of sustainable practice to future consumers. The project will directly reduce the import of materials for the handicraft trade and the associated carbon footprint and potentially reduce the risk of importing invasive alien pest and pathogens on plant materials. It will engender the use of sustainable natural materials and provide a market for the traditional culture and management of native and naturalized objects and plants. The organization would like to strengthen the existing Life Skills Programme , that is being offered by incorporating the use of natural objects obtained in the environment in the Seychelles to produce handicraft work. The young mothers-to-be will be trained with the basic craft skills and entrepreneurial skills which will serve to provide them with revenue to support them and new family. (This directly responds to the cross cutting theme of reducing poverty in SGP). The project will also market for these produce by developing a marketing plan and to eenhance level of awareness in Seychelles Society (particularly youth) of the environmental and economic value in the trade industry using sustainable materials.
