Project Description
The Mormon church community of Solosolo village want to promote the replanting of indigenous Samoan trees and diversify food crops grown by using organic method to sustainable land management. The church community owns forestland, and much has been cleared for domestic activities, such as building houses, canoes etc. The importance of this project is also to set-up a nursery of tree seedllings, for every tree that is cut - more seedlings will be grown. The other phase of the project is promoting traditional crops for sustainable agriculture to resolve the continues crop failure problem in the village and also support the dependency of most families on subsistence agriculture. Objectives; Conduct capacity building training and awareness on the importance of replanting indigenous plants Learn how to better plant crops that are resistant to poor climatic conditions and do vegetable gardens that does not use pesticides or chemicals Prepare a full-project proposal on reforestation and sustainable agriculture using 50 acres of land allocated to the Mormon Church community by one member of the congregation.
