Environmental policy and administrative management

The Le Tava community is part of the Siumu District but the village is located near the peripheral of the Apia town area. The village covers a unique valley, with a river that goes past the valley to the main watershed area under government management. The village growth in the village population has led to increased consumption of resources around the community. We are concerned that much of the larger trees grown along the valley slopes have been cut down for domestic purposes, and now soil erosion is one major problem seen. High level of soil erosion on slopes is evidence during rainy season, and this leads to increased soil sedimentation deposited into the river causing dirty water. We want to protect our river and also to reduce the rate of soil erosion through planting of more tree seedlings (indigenous Samoan trees). It is with this interest to make better use of the resources available in the Le Tava area, that we intend to develop this area into a conservation site. *****PROJECT UPDATE: Project complete.
