Project Description
The BARBADOS - Regional Entrepreneurship & Agriculture Program (REAP) project focuses on promoting organic agriculture and entrepreneurship among young people from primary and secondary schools in Barbados. JACOB proposes to implement proven, practical, agro-enterprise, educational pilot programs across schools and communities in every parish in Barbados, thereby increasing the scale of the initiative. GOAL 1: To improve the techniques for preparing youth, particularly those placed at-risk for academic failure, to be involved in environmentally-friendly, i.e. organic agriculture and entrepreneurship, with a view to regional collaboration and replication. GOAL 2: To improve the capacity of JACOB, and other relevant partnering agencies to deliver youth-oriented, organic agriculture and entrepreneurship within rural and urban communities in Barbados with a view to regional collaboration and replication. Objectives include: training teachers, volunteers and other relevant stakeholders in delivering training and sharing techniques in environmentally-friendly agricultural entrepreneurship ( agri-preneurship ) to youth in every parish in Barbados; to develop strong and effective relationships at the school/community level to ensure project ownership and success; and to monitor and evaluate the progress throughout the project to measure the success of the increase in knowledge and understanding of environmental impacts of agriculture and entrepreneurship.\ This project is a scaling up of an existing project which has already proven to be financial feasible since several of the schools already involved in the project have been able to expand base on funds generated from the initial project.
