Environmental research

This demonstration project will bring together a NGO, a Secondary School, and a young entrepreneur. The Government of Barbados through the Ministries of Education and Environment fully support the project. The goal of the project is to demonstrate how biodiesel can be used as an alternative to diesel in vehicles. The project proponent will work with the Lester Vaughn Secondary School to design a project which includes the following: * Collection of Vegetables Oil: Students will be expected to collect vegetable oil from their homes in special containers and take it to their school where the young entrepreneur will collect it for processing. The income received from the sale of the biodlesel will then be shared with the students and their school for undertaking other environmental and community projects. During the planning stage the NGO and the school will explore the option of establishing a business enterprise owned by the students who would buy shares from the business with used vegetable oil and obtain dividends based on their investment and level of profits. * Processing: the vegetable oil will be processed by the young entrepreneur at a conversion rate of 1:1 and sold to owners of diesel vehicles including farmers with agricultural machinery. * Marketing and Promotions: As part of a business plan which will be prepared there will be a marketing and promotions plan to help expand the market for biodiesel. By the end of the Planning Phase a Full Project Proposal will be submitted which confirms the viability of this conservation and business venture and identifies clear project outputs and outcomes.
