Bialowieza Primeval Forest is exposed to the threat of drying caused by melioration works on Belarussian side as well as some regulatory works on small rivers in the Polish part and to continous dry summers in past 10-15 years - systhematic lowering of ground water level is observed..It affects feeding grounds for black stork(Ciconia nigra).Also not respected protection zones around nests in old tree stage by forersters (exploatation) bring threat. Activities: inventory of black stork`s nests and then creation of protection zones;construction of 5 small river shootings on Perebel River in order to slown down water flow - all necessary permissions are obtained;preparation of technical designs for another 20 shootings and dykes on Lutownia River. Fish stocking in these rivers for improvement feeding grounds for black stork (expetise prepared by experts from Mainland Fishery Institute;preparation for purchase of land (border limits for plots of unused meadows to be flooded temporarily as an effect of construction works, estimation of costs done by experts;funds will come from the Ecofund and Western Foundations(Dutch,Swiss,German - PTOP has experience in organizing these funds).All these works are to be done together with local forest authority.
