Project Description
In the determination of maturity ogives and fecundity for the spiny lobster in Belize Project, the BYCC will train 12 young men and women from the urban areas of Belize City in water safety skills. These young men and women will then work with the Marine biologist at the Fisheries Department and assist in the field work and some analysis of data in order to determine maturity ogives, fecundity, egg quality, and thereby the seasonal pattern of spawning for the spiny lobster stock in Belize. Data collection and field work will last for 9 months. Most of the analysis of data goes on simultaneously with the field work, with the conclusive evaluation and analysis taking place in the last three months of the yearly cycle. The results of the study will be published locally and a forum as well as educational tours will be held to make stakeholders and the general public aware of the results.
