Water resources policy and administrative management

The goal of this project is to further reduce fishing dependency and pressure in and around the BBRRS-WHS (GSSCMR and LBCNP) in the north tip of the Gladden and Silk Cayes Marine Reserve, and strengthen the institutional and financial capacity of the PPCSL by establishing ten more renewable, sustainable seaweed farms. This project is directly in line with the first objective of the COMPACT Phase II Strategy, to expand the sustainable livelihoods options for community group who impact the reef system with a view towards reducing stressors on the BBRS-WHS . The project will accomplish this by providing training to 25 fishers with priority given to the members of the PPCSL, who will then be responsible for establishing and maintaining the seaweed farms. As the original seaweed seeds stay in the farms even after repeated trimmings, this is a sustainable, renewable activity that will generate income by the stakeholders (Objective 1.1 in COMPACTs updated Site Strategy of BBRS-WHS).
