Kangpara geog is one of the remotest geog under Trashigang Dzongkhag and it consists of sixteen main villages and 443 households. The forest has been cleared up with time in quest for fuelwood, timber collection and collection of wild vegetables, etc. When such activities go on for longer period of time, it results into adverse threat to life. Similar situation prevails at Bidingphu watershed under the same geog. The watersource for 20 households have been threatened and the output from the precious watershed has been declining and this problem has been declining year by year. Physically the water source is baren with hardly 100 trees growing within 10-20 meters and the floor is empty due to continued grazing. And till date nothing has been done to revive the watershed. Bidingphu is located at an altitude of 2100 masl with broad leaved mix conifer type of forest. It is about 2 1/2 hours walk from the geog centre. The Bidungphu Thong Chu Tshogpa was formed in June 2006. The by-laws of the organization have been formulated at the same time. The organization does not have any paid staff members. The Tshogpa consists of members from the 20 households. Objective of the Project: The main objective of the project is to revive the water source to ensure continued and enough water supply through plantation and fencing of the water catchment area thereby leading to increase in volume and also mitigate soil erosion. Following are the project objectives: 1. To have continued and enough water supply; 2. To protect the habitat within the water catchment area; 3. To diminish the magnitute of soil erosion and 4. To demonstrate environmental conservation measures to the local communities. Activities: the project activities includes the following: 1. Environmental Awareness Workshop; 2. Plantation; 3. Procurement of Fencing materials; 4. Fencing; 5. Reporting and Communication; 6. Monitoring and Evaluation. The community as a whole will be involved in plantation and fencing thereby creating owenrship.
