Gasa is the only dzongkhag who practices Organic Farming. Organic Farming is a form of agriculture that relies on crop rotation, green manure, compost, biological pest control and mechanical cultivation to maintain soil productivity and control pests, excluding or strictly limiting the use of synthetic fertilizers. The main objective ofthe project is to: 1. build capacity of the farmers in efficient organic farming and sustainable development in order to increase the yearly harvest of the community and reduce poverty; 2. To develop marketing system that promotes production and sale of organically grown products by small farmers in globalized markets; 3. To study all the actors involved in the organic farming and the development of organic products so that problems and potentials are clearly identified and investments are justified and doable. The project activities includes the following: 1. Farmers` capacity building trainings; 2. Promotion - developing and printing of brochures and leaflets for promotion of organic products, advertisements and publicity; 3. Cultivation in a selected garden and application of compost or green manure, herbs etc. 4. In-country Study Tours; 5. Marketing and product packaging.
