Project Description
The project aims at harnessing indigenous knowledge to offer alternatives to using POPS pesticides, take an inventory of POPS pesticides, their availability and use in Botswana, create a database for POPS pesticides educate and raise awareness stakeholders and the general public about prevalence of POPS, promote public debate as a way of encouraging Botswana to seek alternatives for pesticide control and analyses of potable water for POPS. Competitions and quizzes will be used to enhance the learning skills on POPs for students at both primary and secondary schools. BOTHASTED will through the various organs in the Ministry of Agriculture seek to consult the stakeholders which include commercial farmers, construction workers and providers in order to document all the POPs that find their ways into the country and their progression into the environment. The project will involve school children, commercial farmers, construction companies, providers, Department of Customs and Exercise, Plant Protection Division in the Ministry of Agriculture, senior citizens and those who have been known to have oral documentation of IKS (Dingaka Association of Botswana) and trustees of BOTHASTED. The project will be country wide.
