The project aims at finding environmentally friendly methods of controlling termites. Termites are some of the most damaging pets in the tropics and can cause considarable problems in Agriculture, forestry and housing. To tackle the termite problems, there is a need to do a basic identification of the termite species or family and that of indigenous plant species avoided by termites. Lack of toxomic understanding of termites has been a major impediment to the study and management of tropical termates. Finally when alternative termites control methods based on indigenous knowledge systems are identified, the project will promote the use of environmentally friendly controls and demostrate their economical viability. In addition, BOTHASTED in collaboration with the Pandamatenga Commercial Farmers Association will work on the design of silos for storage and evaluate the life of the chemicals after being used for pest control in the closed environment.
