With the objectives mentioned above, the project will be implemented in 30 villages across 9 communes in 2 districts (Kaoh Nheaek and Pech Chreada) of Mondulkiri Province. Through the capacity building provided by the project, it is expected that 1000 farmers will apply agricultural innovations, 120 key farmers will be trained and 90 integrated demonstration farms will be developed, 40 management committee members of 5 community ponds and 2 canals will be trained, 40 farmer producer groups established, 120 management committee members of farmer producer groups trained, 150 leaders of Village Based Organizations (VFOs) trained, and 45 commune council members and 10 government line department officials trained by the project. 1.2 Project Objectives The long-term goal of this project is to contribute to rural poverty alleviation and greater environmental protection of Mondulkiri s diverse ecosystem by training vulnerable households in Kaoh Nheaek and Pech Chreada districts to effectively use their resources for agriculture production in sustainable ways, further increasing their capacity to cope with climate variability and land degradation. In order to achieve this goal, the project will have the following objectives: Objective 1: Increase food security of vulnerable agriculture households through the adoption of climate-smart agriculture techniques; and Objective 2: Empower subsistence farmers and vulnerable social groups to improve their socio-economic conditions so that they can support the healthy protection and management of Mondulkiri s natural resources. 1.3 Outcomes and Outputs Outcome 1 (objective 1): Increased agricultural productivity and environmental protection through the application of resilient agricultural technique Outcome 2 (objective 2): Improved cooperation and mutual help among farmers for collective benefits and marketing activities Outcome 3 (objective 2): strengthened capacity of local authorities and government line department on climate change and adaptation 1.4 Outputs Output 1.1: 120 key farmers (KFs) trained as effective farmer promoters of climate-smart agriculture practices, (30% women) Activities organization of monthly capacity building for key farmers organization of exposure visit Output 1.2: 90 integrated demonstration farms across 30 target villages developed, including 30 family ponds within the demonstration sites developed, including 30 demonstration sites will be developed by women Activities establishment of demonstration and learning sites Output 1.3: 1,000 cooperating farmers will apply smart agricultural technique introduced by the project. At least 30% of the total cooperating farmers will be women. (30% of the total cooperating farmers will be women) Activities organization of thematic workshops organization of 60 village general meetings Output 1.4: 40 management committee members are trained and played effective role in managing 5 community ponds and 2 canals. (30% out of 40 management committee members will be women) Activities capacity building for management committee members of community ponds and canals Output 2.1: 40 farmer producer groups (15 rice producer groups, 15 chicken producer groups and 10 vegetable producer groups) were established and conduct marketing activities effectively. The project expected that the target group s vulnerability to climate risks will be mitigated which resulted from the increase in household income generation capacity. 120 management committee members of farmer producer groups were selected and trained Activities capacity building for farmer producer groups Output 2.2: 50 entrepreneurs were selected by the project (30% women), Activities capacity building of agricultural input producers Output 2.3: 150 leaders of 30 village-based farmer organizations will be trained on practical leadership and management. Activities Capacity building for 150 leaders of village based farmer organizations (VFOs) Output 2.4: 20 rice banks were established and 60 management committee members were selected and trained Activities capacity building for rice bank management committee Output 3.1: 45 commune council members and 10 government line department officials increased understanding of climate change concept and improved adaptive capacity to climate hazards. Activities Organization of district workshops Output 3.1: Commune council integrate project s concept and activities into the Commune Investment Program and Commune Development Plan. Activities organization of commune forums Output 3.1: Best practice or successful stories of farmers are documented and disseminated: at least 10 best practices/successful stories are documented.
