The integrated climate change adaptation into indigenous` livelihood (ICCAIL) is designed based on results of VRA analysis which collected from the targeted villages and consultation among SVC s stakeholders. The project contribute to reduce the climate change in SVC s targeted areas over 5 villages, Phnom Kok commune, Veun Sai district, Ratanakiri province where the community always faced the natural catastrophe. The CC issues that have happened in the project target area are rapid environmental changes like heavy rain, storms, floods or drought that regularly occurred and negatively affect the agricultural sectors (home gardens, animal raisings, and diseases etc.) its causes low production, and then lead to the serious of food deficits inside the communities. The project aims to build communities adaptive capacity through rehabilitation of the existing ponds, building of water reservoirs, rain water tanks, and water jars and digging new ponds to have enough water for consumptions year round. Form the water user group for manage, maintenance and repair etc. The project will organize the meetings/workshops, forums which give an opportunity to students to volunteers to gains knowledge and experiences related to climate change issues as well as to learn on the community development works and sharing the information in order to promote awareness widely to the Build bright University. The project will provide technical training on agriculture to adapt the CC, provide technical advice on agriculture to build up the basic knowledge on the agriculture techniques to adapt the climate change in the target groups. The project will also improve home gardening with multi-crop seed, additional tree planting, planting trees along the ponds, support communities with access to incomes from their agriculture produce in order to increase incomes sources by enhance the food security, health status, and climate change adoption into agriculture livelihood, Awareness of targeted groups will be raised on adaptation to climate change through collaboration with concerned stakeholders and active mobilization and distribution of resources to improve awareness on climate change adaptation. The existing and new climate change committee or disaster management structure in the graft root will be reorganized and strengthened and provided with community-based training to raise awareness on climate change and integrated climate change issues into CDP and CIP. Gender inequality and health status of women will be included in the project in order for them to be able to adapt to climate change. Goal and Objectives General Goal: To integrated climate change adaptation into indigenous livelihood among 335 families (equal 1284 beneficiaries incl. 720 women) in 5 targeted villages of Phnom Kok commune, Veun Sai district, Ratanakiri province in order to contribute to improve the quality of living conditions. Specific Objectives: at the end of project cycle; 1. To build up the capacity and knowledge on climate change adaptation and it`s impact to beneficiaries and key stakeholders through training, awareness raising, climate change forum, World Environment Day, coordination extension meeting to improve livelihood. 2. To integrate the Climate Change Adaptation concept into commune development plan, village plan, vulnerable families` plan and agriculture techniques to reduce the climate change impact in order to improve food security. To mainstream gender into all Climate Change project activities to improve gender equality in family daily living and community development. Outcome 1.1 Increased capacities and knowledge on climate change adaptation and it`s impact to livelihood. Outcome 2.1: CCA project was integrated into commune development plan and village development plan. Outcome 3.1: Gender concept in CC and gap of gender equality are minimized in families and community work. Outputs and Activities Output 1.1.1 At least 475 beneficiaries (50% women) in Phnom Kok commune gain knowledge on CCA through training, awareness raising, CC forum, WED, coordination extension meeting Activities i) Cooperate with line departments to develop training materials on climate resilient agriculture technique related to high land area (Roatanakiri province) ii) Provide one training course on CCA concept, adaptation and integration to key stakeholders (they are CCDM, DCDM, and PCDM representatives, chief office of environment and agriculture and official from DoAFF, DoWRAM, DoE, PoSAVY and SVC staff at least 25participants incl. 10women) at the provincial level. iii) Conduct 5 training courses on CCA concept, adaptation and integration to CBOs committee members, project committee members, local authorities, technical district offices at least 100participants incl. 50% women at commune level. iv) Organize ten awareness raising events in 5 villages of Phnom Kok commune on CCA concept, adaptation and preparedness through video shows, posters or leaflets (Floods, droughts, storms, thunder and weather) - at least 350participants incl. 50% women was attended in 5 villages. v) Organize WED Day to extend broadly on CCA project to local authorities, government departments, NGOs, CBOs, and villagers at village level (1time on June, 2012 at least 100participants incl. 50% women).
