Environmental policy and administrative management

This project ( Innovative Land Management Practices to Enhance Rural Livelihoods in Tsav, Vandekia LGA and Adikpo, Adikpo LGA, Benue) seeks to enhance and build the capacity of rural women farmers towards sustaining their livelihoods through Innovative Farm/Land Management. Unsustainable land practices in communities across Benue State have led to loss of livelihoods and natural resources further impoverishing community dwellers dependent on the natural resources for survival. The proposed project communities have their livelihoods been threatened in no small measure thus bringing about exhaustive use and depletion of the environment within the communities. Agricultural activity records low outputs as soil and land has been massively degraded due to over cultivation, excessive application of inorganic chemicals, over grazing etc. Surface and ground water resources are drying up at a pervasive rate than ever before bringing about low fishing activities and increasing the distances to which women have to cover in search of water for domestic activities. Activities include practical demonstration and training on water harvesting and soil conservation, making of Compost, sustainable and innovative farm/land practices, training on alternative livelihoods and distribution of 2000 economic tree seedlings. The overall goal of the project is to build the resilience of rural women farmers through Innovative Farm/Land Management Practices so as to mitigate the impacts of climate change on their livelihoods.
