Environmental research

The project seeks to mitigate the depletion of the environment by improving the economical use of land and introduction of alternative fuel for domestic and economical use for the production of Garri. In Apado community, firewood forms the main source of energy. The community depends entirely on firewood for cooking and production of garri (a local staple food), one of the major livelihood activities. This source of energy is declining at very fast rate resulting in a huge threat to biodiversity and environmental degradation. Firewood collection has gone beyond picking dead tree branches into cutting down entire tree and allowing it to dry in order to use for firewood. The scarcity is exacerbating poverty taking and increasing cost of production. Planned activities include; Stakeholders meeting, Awareness and advocacy, Workshop on effect of climate change, Construction of mini ethanol plant, Practical Introduction to ethanol production from local raw materials and recycling using cassava by-products, and Local fabrication of localised clean gas stove from local materials, groups involved are the farmers and women of the community.
