The solid waste composition of the country consists of a large fraction of un-compostable organic wastes about 65.1% of total solid waste such as papers, plastics, glasses, textiles, metals, rubbers, leathers and inert (SWMRMC, 2003). The reduction of the organic waste from solid waste is an effective way to reduce the volume and content of solid waste even up to 60%. Therefore, using part of the solid waste as a source of materials to produce the compost can be a best available and feasible technique to generate an efficient fertilizer. Composting is a best available technique to utilize the organic content of the. This technology in small scale has been practiced in the different farming communities. The mass scale of converting solid waste into compost can be replaced the expensive and extensive use of the imported chemical fertilizer. Composting will also provide support a cost efficient and better quality fertilizer which will compel the organic farming. Consequently, composting from municipal solid waste (MSW) is an option to minimize the waste load in the landfill site and increase its life span and reduces the GHG emission such as methane which has a major role in global warming. Composting made from MSW has also a capacity of adding the economic benefit by generating income and employment opportunities for involved communities. The planning grant would be used to develop proposal on waste management in coordination with Solid Waste Management Support Centre.
