Environmental policy and administrative management

The proposed project VDCs Kankada and Khairang lie in Mahabharat Range where slash and burn agriculture is predominately being practiced. Being in the COMDEKS landscape site, the area has similar story to tell- slash and burning by indigenous Chepangs and Tamangs in slopping marginal land, no fallow (annual crop production), no shifting and decline in productivity. Thus the project aimed to introduce SALT with alley cropping and hedgerow, introduce renewable energy technology and micro-irrigation for the renaissance of these degraded land .
