Bio-diversity

Bharaiya wetland lies at far west of Nepal and occupies 61.82 hectors of area. The wet land is hotspot for biodiversity but due to encroachment and unsustainable use the animal like crocodile has already disappeared and similarly verities of water lilies. The wetland is also the connecting point for migratory water birds from eastern and western karnali river. Apart of that, the indigenous Tharu community depends on wetland for collection of snail and mussels. The main objective of the project is to protect and promote Bahraiya wetland through direct participation of Tharu community residing near by the wetland. The project will focus in managing of fresh water ecosystem through awareness raising, researching, rehabilitating of lake, dam constructing, community fish farming and promoting irrigation facility.
