Environmental policy and administrative management

The main aim of the project is to facilitate biodiversity protection and energy conservation through establishing a recycling program with local partners and through empowering students and residents to take an active interest in waste management issues. The intention of the project is two fold: capacity building and promoting environmental awareness. These two intentions will be developed simultaneously. Environment Awareness: Residents and the school community will develop a broader understanding of the value in preseving the environment and the importance of individual commitment and action in order for the recycling programme to be sustainable. Related Activities: Information Sessions: Environmental Clubs of teachers and students within each of the 4 primary and 2 secondary schools will be established to promote activities and participation by students. The members of these clubs lead activities under the direction of the LRV Project leaders. Tools for environmental awareness include lectures, videos, and information sessions. The City of Windhoek Waste Management Department has provided the LRV Project with environmental education materials in English, and Damara/Nama and offered support to help develop a programme. The project is located in the Kunene region in the town lands of Khorixas and Fransfontein.The estimated population of this area is is 16 160 people.
