Water resources policy and administrative management

Hala region is located in the North-east of Socotra Island. The coastal area is very narrow and constitutes of rocks and scattered sandy area. The main occupation of communities is fishing and to small extent herding. Fishermen found anchoring in rocky beaches very difficult and constitute hazard for their boats upon landing. The rocky nature of shores made the area famous for its lobster content. Arieat Di Saqqra is the place where fishermen (20 fishermen) daily anchor their boat is located to the east of the village Di Saqra. The project aimed at assisting local community fishermen access safe anchoring on one hand and develop lobster habitat on the other hand. The project will enable local fishermen accessing the sea by 50% hence the expected increase in their income would be around 50%. Women will benefit from the project either directly through fishing at new depth achieved from building the jetty and through improve house hold income and welfare. Project sustainability will be ensured through collection of monthly contribution from anchoring boats and the sale of lobster collected on both sides of the jetty.
