Environmental policy and administrative management

The project is initiated by an NGO created by ZEF-Bonn/UNESCO project devoted to research about sustainable land management practices. The ZEF-Bonn/UNESCO project has a number of researches implemented for specific conditions of Uzbekistan. One of the crucial points in improving soils quality is proper land planning. Farmers of Uzbekistan do not use modern methods of land planning such as laser levering of the fields. The project aims to demonstrate how this method improves the quality of the soils and increase yields by applying quite affordable technique of laser levering. One of the most important aspects is that water deficit is one of the biggest problems for Uzbek farmers. This method allows using at least 25% less water than with the usual way of land planning utilized by farmers now. The project will take place at the fields of 2 Water Users Associations and cover at least 100 ha of lands. Two sets of laser equipment will be purchased and during the project, the pilot Water Users Associations are to purchase at least one more. The project will make sure that all information, instructions and opportunities for using laser levering equipment are distributed as wide as possible.
