JESE and its partners propose to implement an analog forest conservation project in Kihura sub-county where Matiri Forest Reserve and numerous private forest patches are located. In this project, communities will be sensitized about the values of natural forests and apiary production will be introduced and expanded as a strategy for improved use of natural forests in non extractive way for the benefit of the local population. The forests will be used as the principle source of bee forage. Community groups and individual households will be supported in establishing apiaries in and around these forest reserves and private forest patches.
