Environmental research

The project aims at demonstrating that local initiatives that promote sustainable development and energy efficiency work very well and the results of such activities can be integrated in the community s everyday life. Numerous workshops, seminars in Zhytomyr region show that practical activities and climate change understanding at the local community level are not developed. In this context, the project will mobilize communities to promote energy efficiency and sustainable use of natural resources in their place of living by use of information, capacity development and creation of awareness. The leading community group includes teachers, school children, parents, local governments and business. It is foreseen to start up the network of green cinemas in schools of several districts of Zhytomyr region including supply with the energy efficient equipment for these cinemas. One of the important partnerships of the project will be networking with the school children of neighboring region (Sarny gimnasium, Rivne region) and exchange of experience in environment protection initiatives. The project activities (information materials, training sessions, practical activities) contribute to the capacity building of the local population related to climate change and the possibilities to reduce its effects through increasing the energy efficiency, using renewable energy sources and promoting the non-motorised transport. Specifically, the project will establish partnerships between the local communities, schools and the local government and in this framework undertake climate change awareness raising activities in two oblasts of Polissya, effected by Chornobyl disaster.
