MOA yet under processed The coconut crab resources in TORBA and PENAMA Provinces are major income sources for the remote local communities and households. About 40,000USD generated on annual base for the TORBA province and 700 USD for PENAMA from sale of the crabs to local markets at average price of 85USD per kilo. However with lack of managment on the harvesting, the resources become overharvested to their stock declined in recent years. This raised government attention to placed a ban on the harvest in 2004, for 6 years. In most communities where the ban is well enforced there are anedocatal report of some increase in stock. However the management has not well supported form the centralise government office due to lack of fund to support enforcemnt policies on resoruce managment in these remote areas. Nevertheless the communities have respond well to their responsibilties to oversse the ban implemented. Therefore This project will provide taining to communities, crab collectors, vendors on simple monitoring activities so they are well able to regulate their fishing activties in a more sustainable ways to ensure their sustainable income generation in utilising the resources.
