Akhamb island facing coastal erosion from sea level rise as a result of climate change. The project will implement the community climate change education strategy for Akhamb Island. The lack of the island management of disposal of waste including old used batteries and increasing demand and use of non renewable energy on small islands is not only highly cost but also not environmentally friendly to the island is threatening the island biodiversity and livelihood of the 600 habitants. The project is to install a solar system for lighting for community centre as alternative the need and use of non renewable energy and to help reduced importtion of non renewable sources of energy for lights and powere and to reduce pollution to marine and land soil areas and managing waste through the use the recharging of old used batteries for use. The project will include community capacity building for solar energy maintenance for long term management and use of solar power in Akhamb island. Additionally as part of the Education awareness on Climate Change the project will trial community island coastal rehabilitation of critical eroded areas of the island coastline through coral and mangrove planting.
