Bio-diversity

The increasing demand for agricultural activities coupled with natural disaster such as cyclones and volacnisms had impact to mass area of primary forest loss within the upland Areas of volcanic island such as Ambae Island, are major causes to forest biodiversity loss,including the reduction of international endangered species, the megapode. The loss of forest on steep areas resulted high soil erosion that a detriment to the local communities creating difficulty on road access, and food reserve accessibility that this suppress subsistence economic activities. Local community are unaware of the compounding problem and also they lack the capacity to well respond to the situation they are facing. The project through an advocacy role will be provide information to the local communities on deforestation and rehabilitation through school educational materials and make demonstration for forest rehabilitation. Size of community to be affected by the project in a positive way is seven villages with a population of 2,000 people.
