Project Description
The Vanuatu islands formed a total land mass of 12,336 square km provided for 80% of the Vanuatu population for subsistence lifestyle for their daily livelihood. With a rapid increasing human Population on small island, arable land are becoming limited for farming as on the island Pentecost. Faced with limited land land space for use for farming, the steep marginal land in difficult access are increasingly cultivated and the practice is now becoming a detriment to the environment. there is significance of soil erosion on the island and local farmers claimed reduction of their agricultural productivity. Accessibility difficulty in food gathering within remote farming locality is another contribution to low food and economic productivity on Pentecost. This had affected local households. The project implemented by the local CBO, Huhugaituvgwa to introduce sustainable farming techniques to improve land restoration to improve forest and agricultural productivty and hence step up economic activities to improve livelihood in Pentecost.
