This proposal deals mainly with public education and awareness raising on the above mentioned three MEAs namely Montreal Protocol, Stockholm Convention and Depleting Substances (ODS). This project aims to undertake the public and awareness raising programmes on these MEAs using various means. It is believed that this public education and awareness raising project through the different approaches as stated above will help bring about the following positive changes to the community (both in urban and rural areas): The duration of this project proposal is eighteen months, from December 2012 to June 2014. During the eighteen months, this project is expected to see positive changes in the level of knowledge and understanding about the three MEAs in addressing the issues of ODS, POPs and CITES. It is also expected that there will be positive changes in the behavior and attitudes of people towards their environment. People will become better informed and more concerned about these three environmental issues which will help them to make better decisions and take appropriate actions to address these issues. Communities will also be able to help the Government in addressing these environment issues and not relying entirely on the government to undertake this task. This project will also assist the people and communities to keep their homes, backyards, villages and islands clean and environment free from the harmful effects of ODS and POPs. In this way, it contributes to the community s livelihood betterment and empowerment. The project proposal will also assist the Vanuatu Government through the Customs, Quarantine and Police Officers including the Provincial Planners to better control and regulate the movements of the unwanted ODS, POPs including plants and animals moving through the border control areas (airports and wharfs) of Vanuatu A technical team representing an environmentalist, a community worker and a media producer will be recruited and assigned to implement the project under the coordination of Taule Taule Association.
