Project Description
Project Description
The project will promote biodiversity conservation, contribute to community empowerment and enhance livelihood of inhabitants in the Bendu, Bulu and Buluma Village communities. NASLM will seek collaboration from the Forestry Development Authority (FDA), community leaders and the local inhabitants to implement the project. The project will increase the awareness of communities and build their knowledge and skills on environmental conservation activities and the importance of biodiversity as well as managing and sustaining it. The tree-planting approach is the most practical approach aimed at addressing land degradation and other ecological challenges facing the Lake Piso Multiple Resource Use Reserve (LPMUR) Community. Trees play a special role to the protection of the environment. They prevent global warming and reduce pollution; provide shelter for animal life and are considered the most efficient carbon sink. They provide herbs for medicinal purpose, and also provide furniture and construction materials for shelter. Tree planting initiative, will establish the basis for the conservation of biodiversity, reduction of carbon emission and the mitigation of climate change. It will also address the problems of deforestation and habitat loss. NASLM is intervening on the premise that sustainable use of the environment is essential to alleviating poverty. The proposed project will contribute to mitigating the ecological risks posed to the Lake Piso Multiple Resource Use Reserve (LPMUR) communities. The project will also contribute specifically towards increasing livelihood opportunities in the selected villages of Bendu, Bulu and BulumaVillage, taking into account their long-term livelihood sustainability. This project will seek to accelerate efforts to build the skills and knowledge of communities by providing training and awareness on biodiversity conservation and tree-planting. The project will work to bring about social cohesion and peace building within these communities.
