Project Description
Local communities of Aralkum and Chumysh villages don t have their own land for cattle breading, and have to use the state grounds (as per sanction of the local authorities without any control over the lands rational use) and nearby private farmers lands (without any permission of the owner). As a result of a rough infringement of standards for cattle breeding, the pastures around the villages (radius of 5-7 km) are under strong degradation and desertification. The pastures degradation process increases also due to the cattle of local community has increased in manpower, and also due to additional cattle of the inhabitants who have moved from remote villages searching for better life. The project activity assumes revival and improvement of traditional methods of multiseasonal pastures use through rehabilitation of the distant-pasture cattle breeding and decreasing loading on pastures, by stocking up forage on irrigation sites. Training of the local community on sustain and rational pasture use taking into account both pastures operation and conservation and rehabilitation is planned. The expected results: - The distant-pasture site is supplied with water due to restoration of the old and construction of new wells, and also due to use of special mechanism for snow and thawed snow gathering. - Restoration of the forage capacity of the distant-pastures by means of additional sowing of the forage crops, and creation of a forage reserve for winter. - Creation of a demonstration model of pastures rational use - Sharing lessons learnt and positive experience gained - Creation of preconditions for prevention degradation of pastures round the village. - Improvement of livelihood of the local community due to growth of the livestock yield - Increase a number of wells on the distant pastures and creation conditions for the cattle maintenance on the distant pastures.
